The ugly side of fashion

It's always nice to see some trends that will never catch on.  So much time and effort put in the design, making and modelling of fashion that is near the ridiculous, you have to ask yourselves the question.. why? Why design something that is truly, in all honestly ugly, and just plain wrong.  It has come to my attention that the fashion industry and its designers might not be all "there", if you catch my drift.  The industry seems to have gotten a bit of a bad reputation when it comes to the side of narcotics, but as we all know and have experienced, the majority of people are at their creative peak when high, so lets not judge, Hunter S. Thompson's work might of been a pile of yaks poo if he had been sober.

But I guess at the end of the day, these people are allowed to make fashion that isn't very savvy, cause they've become distinguished enough to do so, and have complete and utter artistic privilege, so kudos to them for being so esteemed in their careers.  Congratulations!

So lets take a little sneak peak at some of the delights...

I get it! I get it, it's edible clothing
cause it's a meringue! You can't fool me!

Hanna Touma - Haute Couture

Spring/Summer 09 Collection.

So I love love luuuuuuuurv this designer.  She has got to be one of my favourite at the moment. She is classy, unsophisticated and her clothes are just lovely.  The Lebanese designers latest collection, to me, is exquisite, it's got that flair to it that makes you wanna go out and get that dress for yourself if you had the cash, which I don't, but still.

The spring/summer collection has a certain fantastical energy to it.  With all the dresses seeming really soft, feminine and there's a subtle beauty to them that's undeniable.  To me, it's the kind of dresses I would wear if I was on the hunt for fairies and unicorns, wondering around in an enchanted forest, and I mean this in a good way, everyone knows unicorns are good.

So feast your eyes on some fashionable beauty below..

Bella! I think it means beautiful
in Italian, still not sure...

As Holly Golightly would say it, I think it's all just Darling!

Giambattista Valli

So, after a nice long weekend, it's always nice to get back in the swing of things, and check some designers that I, personally, don't know very well.  Today I found Giambattista Valli, and I like, I like very much.  The first thing I like, above all, is his name... Giambattistaaaaaa, it is honestly one of the coolest names I've heard in a long time, especially after I was told about someone's name being cabbage... hmmm.

Honestly now, it sounds like one of those names for a man you meet and have a lustrous, passionate affair with, whilst travelling around Europe, well at least that's how I feel (a girl can dream).  I have no idea how to pronounce his surname though, him being Italian and all, it may very well be one of those weird tongue twisters where if you try to say it too often you end up drooling, but I am just going to pronounce it like "Valley."

But now after my rant and rave about his name, let's get onto more important specifics, aka, his clothes... which I for one like, I like it alot.  His designs have a glamorous flair, and are generally clothes that one can where out in public.  It's chic, up to date with the 21st century, and above all classy.  He only came out with his first collection in March 2005, and has a fabulous range of bags, shoes and accessories too.  Such a talented man!

Have a look for yourselves...

Very nice, reminds me of
Audrey Hepburn in 'Breakfast
at Tiffanys,'  too stylish.

All you PETA people out there look away,
Giambattista likes his furs.

Ahhh... there he is with that chick JB, who
is dating JT.  Couples have to rhyme in
hollywood these days.

Nuff said.
Over and Out.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN. FALL 2009

Now, I don't know how many people saw his latest show, but it was in terms... unforgettable... in a bad way.  I do like Alexander McQueen's work, he's always had that sense of eccentricity in his designs, but Fall 2009, showcased at Paris Fashion week takes the cake.

The line of clothes almost had a sado-masochistic edge to it, with tight leather pants, in some ensembles, that looks like something out of those scary sex places your mother told you not to go to.  It was torture wear, to put it bluntly, and it seems like he hates models to have them dress that way. But all's fair, he has artistic privilege, and is esteemed enough to design what ever the hell he wants.  Some critics said it was brilliant, in a unique way it was, but to the sane eye, it wasn't. It was scary, and looked like something out of Pan's Labyrinth, and that movie gave me nightmares.

But I guess what ever makes the wheels on your bus go round and round.

Ch... ch... check it out for yourselves.

It's the lampshade from Beauty
and the Beast.

Anyone for a game of beach ball?
Oh no, wait, there's a head
inside it.

Ummm..... yeeeaahhh,
someone took Halloween a little
too seriously this year.

Krusty the Clown was the make-up
artist on the night.

So there are just a few out of many pics.  The setup was done as though it was an abandoned junkyard, and it was all dark and eerie, from what I can see from the video.  The clothes are freaky, the make-up is freaky, all in all, a 3 out of 10.

A quick intro

Just a little paragraph to introduce myself.  Like most people, I love fashion, who wouldn't? It is after all what we put on our backs, and for those all who hate fashion, well... they should join a nudist colony.

I may love fashion, but that doesn't mean I can design fashion, and I have the most respect for people who do and create trendy waves for all us to follow.  The world of fashion (to me) is a beautiful place mainly due to it's diversity, and it's true that what you wear defines who you are, that's why it takes us forever to get dressed.

I'm observant when it comes to the fashion world, I enjoy seeing what people are wearing, and what the next wave is going to be.  But most of all, I enjoy the runways, the fashion weeks, the times when the greatest of the industry can showcase what they've been working on for months on end, and I love it when the greatest.... stuff up.  Yes, so many of them come out with the most god-awful designs, and that's why I'm going to critique it all... my way.

Tomorrow... Alexander McQueen, Fall 2009

Good Heavens!!!
